A participant of a townhall meeting - held as part of the sixty-third session of the Commission on the Status of Women - greets a UN staff member prior to the beginning of the townhall.
The townhall, moderated by Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), served as an opportunity for civil society representatives to engage with Secretary-General António Guterres and his senior leadership on topics pertaining to gender equality and the work of the UN.
Maryam Bular Hasan, Poet, shares a poem at the Summit of the Future Action Day Two session titled “Dismantling patriarchal power structures”. Action Day 2, which coincides with the International Day of Peace, focuses on three priority themes: A Digital Future for All; A Peaceful Future for All; and A Sustainable Future for All.

The Summit offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity for change. It will pave the way to a better tomorrow, one that we can only shape together. In support of this vision and these objectives, the Secretary-General of the United Nations convened the Summit of the Future Action Days on 20 and 21 September 2024 to generate additional opportunities for the engagement of all actors.

Headline Refugee Resettlement in Colombia
Caption Description As a special contribution to World Refugee Year, the Government of Colombia allowed 150 refugee families to enter the country. Since the end of World War II, some 1,573 refugees have been admitted into the country, a number of them sponsored by the Colombian Catholic Immigration Committee (CCIC) which has helped them to find jobs and achieve economic and social integration into the communities in which they have settled.
One of the refugees (left, on the phone) helped by the CCIC is the co-owner of the tailoring establishment where this photograph was taken as another refugee was being measured for a suit in one of the fitting-rooms. The husband of this refugee is co-owner of a thriving liquor plant. They came to Colombia with their two children in January 1959. [Exact date unknown]
