United Nations Radio and Visual Services Division Sound Recording Room
Caption Description
Close-up of special four-track Ampex tape recorders used for recording of United Nations meetings. Each track can record four out of the five official languages which are English, French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese. The recording speed is 3-3/4 i.p.s. The four-track recorders are also able to record different meetings on each of the tracks separately. Since on an average day five to seven meetings are recorded here this system permits maximum utilization of tape and saves storage space for tapes which are stored for many years.
