El Salvador Signs International Coffee Agreement, 1976
Caption Description
El Salvador today signed the International Coffee Agreement, 1976. The Agreement, which was approved by the International Coffee Council in London on 3 December 1975, is intended as a continuation of the International Coffee Agreement, 1968. The 1976 Agreement, like the earlier one, is designed to achieve a reasonable balance between world supply and demand on a basis which will assure adequate supplies of coffee at fair prices to consumers as well as markets for coffee at remunerative prices to producers, and which will be conducive to long-term equilibrium between production and consumption. The aims of the Agreement are to be achieved through action by the International Coffee Council to approve production goals and export quotas for producing states and to assign quotas to consumer nations for imports from non-member countries.
