Satellite Television Transmission from UN Headquarters Inaugurated
Caption Description
Three separate television transmissions by satellite originated from United Nations Headquarters here today for the first time. The first transmission beamed live coverage of a General Assembly debate to Brussels, technical centre of Eurovision, via the Early Bird Satellite, for distribution throughout continental Europe. The second was a report by the UN correspondent of the British Broadcasting Corporation, also carried by Early Bird to the United Kingdom. The third linked Headquarters with the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) in Japan by-means-of the Intelsat II Pacific Satellite. The transmissions were organized by United Nations Television with the co-operation of the respective national television organizations.
Josef Nichols, Operations Manager, Radio and Visual Services Division, UN Office of Public Information, monitors a live transmission of the UN Secretariat Building.
