Caption Description Established in 1961 under an agreement between the United Nations and the Government of Japan, the Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and Treatment of Offenders, located in Fuchu, provides consultative or advisory services to governments and institutions in the region in the formulation and application of policies and programmes in the field of social defense. It also serves as a training Center for persons working in correctional institutions and in non-institutional services such as probation, parole and after-care, etc., and carries out studies and research into various aspects of its field of reference.
Visits to penal institutions are part of the field work carried out by students at the Institute. Here, four of the students are seen interviewing an inmate of Fuchu Prison during a field trip to that institution. [No exact date]
