General Assembly Acts on Number of Organizational Matters
Caption Description
The General Assembly this afternoon approved without objection five new members of the Economic and Social Council and agreed to extend the mandate of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) until 30 June 1966. Also this afternoon, the Assembly approved, without objection, appointments to a number of its subsidiary bodies; arrangements affecting the UN Joint Staff Pension Board; the use of part of the UN headquarters site for construction of the UN International School; the appointment of Raul Prebisch as Secretary General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development; and the convening of a conference next August to adopt a convention on the transit trade of land-locked countries. Consideration of arrangements for the interim financing of the UN for 1965—proposed in a draft resolution submitted by the Assembly President--- was deferred until the next meeting of the Assembly, scheduled for 16 February.
