By a vote of, 48, to five with four abstentions, the full General Assembly agreed late today to consider United States charges regarding the detention and imprisonment of United Nations military personnel in violation of the Korean Armistice Agreement. The five opposing votes were cast by Byelorussia, Czechoslovakia, Poland, the Ukraine and the USSR.
Anthony Nutting, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of The United Kingdom, at the rostrum as he was making a statement for the 16-power resolution condemning the detention of UN Command personnel and asking UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld to seek their release. Declaring that he wished ""to add the voice of the British public to that of all civilized communities in an effort to set right this great and grievous wrong"", he said ""These airmen are not just members of the United States Air Force; they are the soldiers of the world organization, sent to fight by the will and at the call of the United Nations."" Seated at the presidential rostrum are (left to right): Mr. Hammarskjöld, Assembly President Eelco N. van Kleffens, of the Netherlands; and Andrew W. Cordier, Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General.
