UNKRA Fishing Boats Fly UN Flag
Caption Description
The UN flag will be flown at sea for the first time this week when two deep-sea fishing trawlers set sail from Hong Kong for Pusan, Korea. These are the first of ten modern trawlers which have just been built in a Hong Kong shipyard for UNKRA. They are therefore entitled to fly the UN flag until they are handed over to their new owners and join the Korean fishing fleet under the South Korean flag. The shipyard delivered the vessels on 1 March, when the UN flags were hoisted. These ten trawlers were built at a total cost of about $500,000; they will enable Korean fishermen to extend their operations to rich fishing areas up to 1,000 miles offshore.
Mr. George S. Hall, Assistant Agent General of the UN Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA), and Mr. Chang J. Park, Korean Consul General in Hong Kong, in front of one of the vessels.
