UNKRA Orders Boats to Increase Korean Fish Production
Caption Description
Ten 77-ton fishing trawlers are now under construction at the Cheoy Lee Shipyard, here in Hong Kong, to augment the Republic of Korea's war-depleted fishing fleet and provide marine products needed to help balance the Koreans' diet. The trawlers, larger and more powerful than those now being used, are built according to plans and specifications approved by the Korean Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Korean Fisheries Control Committee and the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA); they will be capable of fishing the Bering Sea for cod and the East China Sea for all types of bottom fish. The boats are the first to be purchased by UNKRA under its $1,900,000 program of fisheries rehabilitation. They are scheduled for delivery in six months.
At the Cheoy Lee Shipyard, from left to right, Messrs Lo Sum, Assistant Manager of the shipyard, H. M. Munro, Surveyor of ships for the Marine Department of the Hong Kong Government, Milo Moore, UNKRA Fisheries Advisor, and Lo To, Manager of the Shipyard inspect one of the trawlers.
