UNKRA Helps to Improve Korean Harbour Facilities
Caption Description
Due to tidal conditions on the West coast of Korea, continuous dredging is required to maintain harbour serviceability. The key ports of Kunsan and Changhang which are vital to re-establishment of the economy of the South-western Provinces had become practically inoperative. To remedy this situation, the UN Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA), purchased a diesel dredge and repaired existing Korean dredges. This photograph shows the Dredge ""Chin Hae Man"", constructed for UNKRA at a cost of over one million dollars, to assist in harbour maintenance of Korean ports. UNKRA engineers and an UNKRA-financed Dutch supervisory crew are training a Korean crew in dredging techniques.
