UNKRA Builds Flat Glass Plant in Korea
Caption Description
South Korea's first large-scale flat glass plant is now being built at Inchon, $3,628,759 having been allocated towards its cost by the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA). After the war an UNKRA survey showed that although enough raw materials were available locally, existing plants were not equipped to produce window glass. The new plant will have an annual output of 6,000 tons of flat glass and 500 tons of wired glass. It has recently been purchased for the sum of $4,773,865 by a private firm, the Daehan Glass Industry Company Ltd., which will take over the plant when it is completed. This picture shows the plant's 52-foot high silo for holding raw materials. The silo measures 36 feet in diameter, and is divided into compartments for holding feldspar, dolomite, sand and cullet.
