New Vocational Training Centre Opened in Seoul
Caption Description
As part of a programme under which the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA) is helping to construct and equip seven similar institutions in this country, a new Vocational Training Centre was opened here today in a ceremony at which Korean President Syngman Rhee was present. Attached to Kyunggi Technical High School, the new Centre was erected at a cost of $290,000 and approximately 80,000,000 Hwan from counterpart funds. A main building of the School was rehabilitated and four new workshops were built, including a three-story building. Modern machinery and instruments for mechanical and civil engineering as well as for architectural departments were brought from all parts of the world and UNKRA is also providing technical assistance in the installation and initial operation of this equipment. In addition to the formal education given at the School, it is planned to run courses for boys who have to earn their living but wish to continue their education and the curriculum is designed to give students a maximum amount of time in practical work in the machine shops. This photograph shows President Syngman Rhee signing the Visitors Book at Kyunggi Technical School during the dedication ceremony earlier today. Looking on are (front row, 1eft to right) a student of the school, Lt. General John B. Coulter Agent General of UNKRA; Mr. Walter C. Dowling, American Ambassador to Korea, and Mr. In Kwan Lee, Principal of the Kyunggi High School.
