UNKRA-Built Glass Plant Begins Operation in Korea
Caption Description
This photo shows the first sheets of flat glass being broken off the top of the Fourcault glass drawing machine at the Inchon Flat Glass Plant in Korea. This plant, the first of its kind in Korea, was built by the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA) at a cost of $3,629,000 and Hwan 600,000,000 (the current rate is 500 hwan to $1). Its capacity of 12 million square feet a year will meet the main part of normal domestic requirements, although demand for glass in the reconstruction period has been, as high as 25 million square feet annually. The plant was officially opened on 30 September by President Syngman Rhee and will be operated by a Korean firm, the Hankuk Glass Industry Company, Limited.
