Headline Wholesale Fish Market Constructed by UNKRA in Seoul
Caption Description An exterior view of the Seoul City Wholesale Fish Market, built by the UN Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA) as part of its program in aid of the Korean fishing industry. Officially opened on 25 June 1954, from 50 to 70 tons of fish from many coastal points now change hands each morning at the new Market. Second only to agriculture in the provision of food for the Korean people and a major source of foreign exchange, the fishing industry was severely affected by war destruction and unarrested deteriorations. UNKRA has allocated $1,500,000 in 1954 to aid the fishing industry, through projects aimed at increased fish production, improved distribution and marketing facilities and increased fishing and conservation equipment.
