The eagle has been reintroduced to help regenerate the species along the Upper Delaware River, which was once its natural habbitat. The American Bald Eagle once on the verge of extinction has come back and been taken off the endangered list recently. However forty years ago, the bald eagle, the national symbol of United States, was in danger of extinction throughout most of its range. The eagle population had been drastically reduced due to habitat destruction and degradation, illegal hunting, and the contamination of its food sources, due to use of the pesticide DDT.
