Headline Opening of Exhibition ""Some were Neighbours: Choice, Human Behaviour, and the Holocaust""
Caption Description A group photo at the opening of the exhibition ""Some were Neighbours: Choice, Human Behaviour, and the Holocaust"".
From left to right are: Tad Stahnke, William and Sheila Konar Director of International Educational Outreach of the William Levine Family Institute for Holocaust Education at United States Holocaust Memorial Museum; Rita Sokolov, Holocaust survivor; Melissa Fleming, Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications; Cherith Norman-Chalet, Acting Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations; Howard M. Lorber, Chairperson of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Council.
This exhibit examines the role of ordinary people in the Holocaust and the variety of motives and pressures that influenced individual choices to act. The exhibit also looks at individuals who did not give in to the opportunities and temptations to betray their fellow human beings, reminding us that there is an alternative to complicity in evil acts—even in extraordinary times. The exhibition is organized by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and supported by the Permanent Mission of the United States to the UN.
