Peace doves fly on the grounds of the historic Hazrat-i-Ali mosque, in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan. The doves are part of a campaign launched by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in observance of the International Day of Peace.

Mbyo Village is a reconciliation village, established as part of Rwanda's "Unity and Reconciliation" initiative to foster national unity and collective progress. These villages represent one of several projects initiated by the Rwandan government in response to the 1994 genocide. Within these villages, survivors of the genocide live alongside repentant ex-perpetrators, promoting coexistence and healing.

2024 marks the 30th observance of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, one of the darkest chapters in human history. More than one million people – overwhelmingly Tutsi, but also Hutu and others who opposed the genocide – were systematically killed in less than three months.
An anti-war protest rally for Ukraine is held outside the UN Headquarters, as the Security Council meet calling for a General Assembly Emergency Session on Ukraine.

Headline Displaced Child at Protection of Civilians Camp in Juba, South Sudan
Caption Description Irina Bokova, Director-General of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); and Leila Zerrougui, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict; along with actor Forest Whitaker, who is UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and Founder and CEO of the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative, visited one of the Protection of Civilians (POC) camps at the UN compound in Juba. Tents at the camp serve as makeshift homes to a population of more than 30,000 people displaced by conflict and ethnic strife in the South Sudanese capital Juba. Strengthening the protection of children affected by armed conflict was one of the points of focus for the 22-24 June joint visit to South Sudan.
