Headline Secretary-General Sends Message to People of South Sudan: The UN is With You
Caption Description South Sudan, which has been rocked by growing violence that has displaced over 80,000 people, has seen some 45,000 taking refuge in the compounds of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). The conflict, sparked by an alleged coup attempt by loyalists of former vice president Riek Machar against the Government of President Salva Kiir, has been increasingly marked by ethnically targeted killings pitting the Dinka against the Lou Nuer.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon records a message for the people of South Sudan.  In his message, Ban acknowledges the horrific attacks and grave violation of human rights that are taking place and assures the people of South Sudan that the United Nations stands with them.  He calls on the ""country's leaders to solve their differences peacekefully"" and has ""warned all responsible for crimes that they will be held accountable.""
