Headline Head of UNOG Receives "Red Hand" Prints Protesting Use of Child Soldiers
Caption Description Michael Møller, Acting Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva (UNOG), received “Red Hand” prints from students of the John F. Kennedy International School located in Saanen, Switzerland. Each year on Red Hand Day (12 February), children and youth in different countries collect “Red Hand” prints to protest the recruitment and use of children as soldiers in armed conflicts and to demand a stop to the practice. The Red Hand Day campaign began in 2002, when the optional protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict entered into force.
UNOG Director-General Møller (centre right) is pictured with the students of the JFK International School, along with Marilena Viviani (centre left), Associate Director of Global Programme Partnerships at the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
