The Security Council adopts an amendment, presented by the United States, whereby African-led peace operations will have access to funding from UN assessed contributions not exceeding 75 per cent of their respective annual budgets, with the remaining amount to be jointly mobilized as extra-budgetary resources. The amendment was adopted with 9 votes in favour, and 6 abstentions (Gabon, Ghana, China, France, Mozambique, Russian Federation).

The Security Council later adopted Resolution 2719 (2023) on cooperation between UN and African Union. The resolution determines to take effective steps to further enhance the partnership between the United Nations and the African Union, in accordance with Chapter VIII of the Charter, including forging greater regional and national ownership and underscores the primary responsibility of the Security Council under the Charter for the maintenance of international peace and security, as well as the oversight responsibilities of the Security Council for African Union-led Peace Support Operations authorized by the Security Council.
