The Security Council Chamber
Caption Description
The Security Council Chamber was furnished by Norway and designed by the Norwegian artist Arnstein Arneberg. A large mural by Per Krohg, of Norway, symbolizing the promise of future peace and individual freedom, covers most of the east wall. The walls are of marble and blue and gold tapestry; the doors are set with inlaid wood. All furnishings, including the tapestry for the walls and curtains and the delegates' and Secretariat chairs, were supplied by Norway. The Chamber is 72 feet wide and 135 feet long. The glass-enclosed booths along either side of the Chamber are for simultaneous interpreters, newsreel and television cameramen, radio commentators and technicians.
A view of the Security Council chamber as seen from the interpreters' booth.
