Headline Controlling Population Growth through Family Planning in Indonesia
Caption Description With a population of 121 million, growing at an annual rate of 2.6 percent, Indonesia ranks fifth among the world's most heavily populated countries. Nearly two-thirds of this population live in Java and Bali, which have an average density of about 1,490 persons per square mile. The Indonesian Government is giving strong support to a national family planning programme which is being implemented by the National Family Planning Co-ordinating Board (NFPCB), a governmental body. This current programme, covering Java and Bali, is now receiving assistance from the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank (IBRD), and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA).
