Development of Resources: Fisheries Industry in Senegal
Caption Description
The lifeline of many poor countries is the export of raw materials. If that line is to hold firm, these countries must have stable and equitable prices for the commodities they sell to the industrial world. The resources of land and sea, however, must not be exploited for nationalistic ends, but for the benefit of all mankind.
Local fishermen on canoes returning home with their day's catch. The waters off the coast of Senegal are abundant in several varieties of fish. The Government with help from the Food and Agriculture Organization under the UN Development Programme has taken steps to develop the fisheries industry in Senegal. [c. 1974]
