The Mechanical Voting System in the General Assembly Hall
Caption Description
The blue, green and gold General Assembly Hall - 165 feet long by 115 feet wide with a 75-foot ceiling - occupies the second, third and fourth floors of the General Assembly building. Representatives of each Member State sit behind leather-covered tables facing a raised speakers' rostrum and podium. At the podium sits the President of the General Assembly, with the Secretary-General of the United Nations to his right and the Under Secretary-General for General Assembly Affairs to his left. Above and behind the speakers' rostrum are large panels listing the Member States of the Organization, where the results of votes are displayed. These panels are part of a mechanical voting system which permits delegates to vote by pressing buttons on the tables in front of them.
