UNRWA Helping Palestinian Refugees to Cope
Caption Description
For nearly forty years UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for the Palestine Refugees in the Near East, has been caring for Arab Refugees left homeless and without a livelihood as a result of the 1948 Arab-Israeli conflict in Palestine. Financed by voluntary contributions from governments, UNRWA's job is to provide schools, shelter, medical and relief services to over 2 million refugees currently registered with the agency. Being forced to cope with growing demands made on it by the continuing conflicts, dwindling resources and often dangerous working conditions, has made its work a formidable challenge.
