Caption Description
The Peace Bell located in the area north of the Secretariat Building at United Nations Headquarters was a gift donatedby the UN Association of Japan in the name of people of Japan. In the Tada factory in Japan, it was cast from coins received from delegates of 60 nations at the thirteenth general conference of UN Associations held in Paris in 1951 and from individual contributions of various kinds of metal. The bell weighs 256 pounds. It is housed in a typical Japanese Shinto shrine-like structure made of Japanese cypress wood.
