Headline Security Council Unanimously Establishes Protection Force to Create Conditions for Negotiated Settlements of Yugoslav Crisis 
Caption Description Today, the Security Council voted to establish a United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) with the goal of creating the conditions of peace and security required for the negotiation of an overall settlement of the Yugoslav crisis. The Council took that action by unanimously adopting resolution 743 (1992).
Secretary-General Boutros-Ghali has proposed a deployment of 13,870 military and police personnel and a 519-member civilian component. The Force's initial mandate would be for 12 months, to be renewed if necessary, with the cost estimated at $634 million.
