A participant of a townhall meeting - held as part of the sixty-third session of the Commission on the Status of Women - greets a UN staff member prior to the beginning of the townhall.
The townhall, moderated by Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), served as an opportunity for civil society representatives to engage with Secretary-General António Guterres and his senior leadership on topics pertaining to gender equality and the work of the UN.
Maryam Bular Hasan, Poet, shares a poem at the Summit of the Future Action Day Two session titled “Dismantling patriarchal power structures”. Action Day 2, which coincides with the International Day of Peace, focuses on three priority themes: A Digital Future for All; A Peaceful Future for All; and A Sustainable Future for All.

The Summit offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity for change. It will pave the way to a better tomorrow, one that we can only shape together. In support of this vision and these objectives, the Secretary-General of the United Nations convened the Summit of the Future Action Days on 20 and 21 September 2024 to generate additional opportunities for the engagement of all actors.

Headline AMISOM and SPF Joint Night Patrol
Caption Description Security has steadily and significantly improved in Somalia's ocean-bordered capital over the last year as stability has gradually returned following the withdrawal of the Al-Qaeda-allied extremist group Al Shabaab 18 months ago. Sustained military operations by the Somali National Army (SNA) supported by AMISOM forces across southern and central Somalia have liberated towns and areas once under the control of the violent extremist group.
Somali women walk along main street of the Somali capital Mogadishu during a joint night patrol and snap-vehicle checkpoint exercise conducted by the Somali Police Force (SPF) and a Nigerian Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
