Headline
Afghanistan: UNICEF Girls' Education
Caption Description
The interim government in Afghanistan has made education one of its key priorities, and UNICEF is supporting efforts to provide learning opportunities while making strides on ensuring children – in particular girls - have access to quality education. The official first day of school has been set for 21 March in Kabul but parents have been sending their daughters to school as early as three days after the Taliban left Kabul in order to catch up on years of lost learning.
UNICEF supplies the Zarghuna Girls School with educational supplies, teachers' training, and assists in repairing the infrastructure. The school has more that 2,600 children enrolled, ranging from 7 to 20 years old.
