United Nations Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld, who today began his second five-year term of office, was honoured by the City of New York at a luncheon given for him in the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, attended by 700 business and political figures. Mayor Robert F. Wagner, host at the luncheon, presented the Secretary-General with the Medal of Honor of the City of New York and with a scroll granting him the freedom of the city.
Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld (back of car, at right) leaves the United Nations plaza on the way to the luncheon. Seated next to him is Richard C. Patterson, Jr., Commissioner of the Department of Commerce and Public Events, who will preside at the luncheon.
