WHO's Assistance to the Republic of the Congo (Leopoldville)
Caption Description
As a result of the recent flooding of the Congo River in this area, the city's water-works, electric plant and other installations have been severely damaged, and there has been a general shortage of food and a deterioration in sanitary conditions. The Provincial Government requested help from the UN authorities who have arranged for a team of WHO sanitary engineers to advise and help local authorities to restore sanitary services.
Here, WHO sanitary G. Etienne (armband), of Haiti, is seen giving a local group a few pointers on proper refuse and insect control during an inspection tour of the market area. [1962]
