Headline
UNEF Hospital in Rafah
Caption Description
A youngster gets an x-ray test at the combined Norwegian-Canadian Hospital of the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) here. In cooperation with UNRWA, the Hospital is supervising X-ray tests of some 5,000 Arab children in the Rafah area. Located in a white-washed, saw-toothed building that was once a hangar in the UNEF Maintenance Area here, the 60-bed hospital is manned by some 84 Norwegians, 32 Canadians and 42 locally recruited assistants. Patients are primarily UNEF soldiers but the hospital also treats cases sent to it from UNRWA and patients from the local labor staff and urgent cases who have sought its aid. The hospital treats some 30 out-patients daily, discharges around 65 patients monthly and usually has 30 beds occupied.
