Headline General Assembly Adopts $606 Million Budget for 1974-1975; Approves 6 Percent Salary Increase for Professional Staff
Caption Description The General Assembly ended its work for the year this evening after adopting a revised budget of $606,033,000 for 1974-1975, which is 12.1 percent above the level approved last December for the same period. The Assembly approved a 6 per cent increase in the net salaries of UN professional staff, by a roll-call vote of 90 in favour to 21 against, with 20 abstentions. In its final economic decision of the session, the Assembly adopted without a vote a resolution setting out the specific provisions governing the operation of the Special Fund set up by the Assembly last May to provide emergency relief and development assistance to the countries most seriously affected by economic crisis. The Assembly suspended rather than adjourned its session, after its President, Abdelaziz Bouteflike (Algeria) said that as a result of extensive consultations, it was felt that the best course to follow would be to resume the session if circumstances warranted Assembly consideration of the situation in the Middle East.
