The Security Council met this afternoon, for the first time in 1971, to consider the application of Bhutan for membership in the United Nations. The President of the Council, Charles W. Yost (United States), said that agreement had been reached in informal consultations among members to refer the application, in accordance with rule 59 of the Council's rules of procedure, to the Council's Committee on the Admission of New Members for examination and a prompt report. The Committee, on which all members of the Council are represented, met in closed session this afternoon after the end of the Council meeting.
