The Chao Phya River Project in Thailand
Caption Description
It is estimated that the annual production of paddy rice can increase by an additional million tons through the use of the new water distribution system now being carried out by the Government of Thailand in the 2-million-acre Chao Phya River basin. The project is being carried out by the Royal Irrigation Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and is estimated to cost some $12 million. The World Bank has made the Government a loan of $5.6 million to cover the foreign exchange requirements.
In Noorse Polder, Netherlands, technicians experiment with a flap which will create artificial waves in the model of the Chao Phya River estuary.
