Headline
U.N. Secretary-General in Australia
Caption Description
U.N. Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld today completed a four-day visit to Australia, during which he was occupied with numerous activities.
This picture, taken in Cooma, at the Headquarters of the Scientific Services Branch of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Authority, shows Mr. Hammarskjöld (left of window) looking at a cut-away model of a section of an earth dam which will be erected at Adaminaby. Such a model enables the engineers to test the water penetration of materials. Standing at the Secretary-General's left are Messrs. George Ivan Smith and Hugh Williams, respectively directors of the Information Centres of the U.N. in London and Sydney, and William Ranallo, Personal Assistant to Mr. Hammarskjöld.
