The Arab Refugees
Caption Description
Since the partition of Palestine, in 1948, more than 800,000 Arabs have taken refuge in the neighbouring countries. They are the concern of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.
This picture shows one of the work projects in afforestation in Arroub, Jordan. Refugee workers have planted 600 dunums (132 acres) with 66,000 pine and cypress seedlings. The seedlings are transported by truck until rocks block the route, then carried to the planting area.
