Headline Security Council Resumes Consideration of Namibia
Caption Description The Security Council resumed consideration of Namibia this afternoon, at the request of 54 States, and received a five-power draft resolution calling for creation of an ad hoc committee of experts to study the problem and report with recommendations by 1 June 1970 on steps the Council could take ""to enable the United Nations to discharge its special responsibility towards the people of Namibia"". The draft resolution is sponsored by Burundi, Finland, Nepal, Sierra Leone and Zambia. The text, as circulated in provisional form this afternoon, was amended orally by the sponsors.
Max Jakobson (Finland) introducing the draft resolution. At the table with him are Joaquin Vallejo Arbelaez (left) of Colombia, and Armand Berard (right) of France.
