With its large drum capacity (usually 75 litres), the device frees women and children from having to spend a large portion of every day dedicated to collecting water for their households. The African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) has distributed some 3,000 such rollers across Darfur.

18,000 more people reportedly recently arrived in Nyal payam (county) in search of safety and security due to the conflict between the South Sudan government and the armed opposition forces. Fighting resumed last August despite a signed peace accord, forcing South Sudanese to flee in search of safety, assistance, and protection, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Together, the World Food Programme (WFP) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) provide assistance with food and nutrition, as well as childhood education.

Headline Human Settlements: Housing and Community Development in Upper Volta
Caption Description One of the main purposes of the United Nations Conference-Exposition on Human Settlements to be held in Vancouver, Canada, in June 1976, will be to bring to the world's attention the nature and relative importance of the problems of human settlements against a background of widespread concern for the whole of our earthly environment - natural and man-made. Two of the most critical problems of society today - made increasingly urgent by the rapid rise in the world's population - are the shortage of adequate housing and the deterioration of the conditions under which people live and work.
