Headline Press Conference on Humanitarian Demining
Caption Description Ismael Abraão Gaspar Martins, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Angola to the United Nations,  Jean-Marie Guéhenno, Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, and Martin Dahinden, Director of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining, held a joint press conference today at UN Headquarters on humanitarian demining. They said that failure to deal with humanitarian demining would make reconstruction in post-conflict situations extremely difficult, if not impossible. The fact that a mine cost  to make and ,000 to clear highlighted the extent of the challenge facing the world, they added.
