WHO and UNICEF Work to Eradicate Malaria in Cameroon
Caption Description
The Federal Republic of Cameroon, with the assistance of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), is carrying out a programme for the eradication of malaria. Because of the reappearance of A. gambiae in a surveillance area in 1962, DDT spraying was resumed and a pilot pre-eradication project was in operation during 1963 and 1964. A network of rural public health centres is being developed to facilitate the distribution of anti-malaria drugs, and national personnel are being trained in order to permit the establishment of an anti-malaria service.
Sanitary workers in Nkometou prepare DDT powder for spraying. A large amount of the powder is supplied by UNICEF. [Exact date unknown]
