Cambodia complained that since 1949 Thailand had persisted in the occupation of a portion of Cambodian territory where there are the ruins of a holy monastery, the Temple of Preah Vihear. In its judgment on the merits, the International Court of Justice found that the Temple was situated on Cambodian Territory.

The Court ruled that, in compliance with its obligations under the Convention Against Torture, Senegal must prosecute or extradite former Chadian President Hissène Habré.  
This session took place, exceptionally, in the Japanese Room of the Peace Palace. The ICJ’s role is to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by States (its Judgments are final and binding) and to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized UN organs and agencies. A billboard art mural saying “Before the law, All people are equal” is fixed into place along the road to Mogadishu International Airport as part of a project in cooperation with the Centre for Research and Dialogue (CRD). The initiative is designed to mobilise and educate people through art to better understand and absorb the differences, benefits and realities between conflict and peace.

Headline Indian Tribesmen Visit United Nations 
Caption Description The creased and torn deerskin which Indians claim to be the original treaty signed by George Washington in 1794, is held by Dr. Charles Malik, Representative of Lebanon on the UN Commission on Human Rights, during visit of group of Indian tribesmen who came down from the reservations to United Nations to ask for help and voice their complaints of alleged violations of treaties by Canada and the United States.
