Portrait of Mr. Fwanyanga M. Mulikita, new Permanent Representative of Zambia to the United Nations, who presented his credentials to Secretary-General U Thant at UN Headquarters today.
The new Permanent Representative received his Master's Degree in education and psychology from Stanford University, California (United States), in 1959. He returned in 1960 to his country, which before it achieved independence last October was Northern Rhodesia, to teach in a Teachers' Training College. In 1961 he opened and conducted a secondary school in his country until January 1964, when he came to New York to take a course in international relations at Columbia University. On Zambia's independence, on 24 October 1964, he was appointed Permanent Representative of Zambia to the UN. Earlier in his career, Mr. Mulikita worked for the Judicial Department in Northern Rhodesia from 1950 to 1952. He completed his undergraduate studies at Fort Hare University, South Africa (1952-1954), and returned to his country to teach in a secondary school, from 1954 to 1956. In the period 1956-1957, he worked as a welfare officer in Kitwe, Zambia, and from 1957 to 1959 resumed teaching in a secondary school. Mr. Mulikita was born on 24 November 1928. He is married and has three children.
