Caption Description Following the Security Council resolution of 14 July 1960 authorizing UN military assistance to the Republic of the Congo, some 11,500 soldiers from nine countries are now on duty helping to restore order and calm in the country. The Secretary-General sent his Personal Representative in the Congo, Dr. Ralph J. Bunche, to Elisabethville, capital of Katanga province, for talks in relation to Kananga.  
Dr. Bunche (2nd from right, front row) is seen upon his arrival at the airport of Elisabethville where he was greeted by Ambassador Robert Rothschild, deputy head of the Belgian diplomatic mission to the Congo, and Count Harold d'Aspremont Lynden, personal representative of Premier Gaston Eyskens of Belgium. Members of Dr. Bunche's group are seen with him.
