Headline UN Concert Marks Human Rights Day
Caption Description The 11th anniversary of the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was marked in the United Nations by a concert held in the General Assembly Hall on 9 December 1959 at 8:45 pm, which was broadcast all over the world. Listeners were able to hear the Detroit symphony Orchestra, under the baton of its conductor, Paul Paray, perform the Introduction and Procession from ""Le Coq d'Or"" by Rimsky-Korsakov, and two dances by Maurice Durufle, as well as Schumann's Symphony no.4 in d minor. Famed violinist Jascha Heifetz joined the orchestra in a performance of Beethoven's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra.
