Nineteenth Session of the UN General Assembly
Caption Description
The General Assembly this morning resumed the general debate, hearing statements by Lord Caradon, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom; Danilo Lekic (Yugoslavia); and Michel Gallin-Douathe (Central African Republic). So far, 78 delegations have been heard in the general debate of this Assembly session. At the end of this morning's meeting, the Secretary-General announced the sudden death this morning of Maurice Pate, Executive Director of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF). The Secretary-General and the President of the Assembly expressed condolences, and the Assembly rose for a minute of silence in tribute to Mr. Pate's memory.
