Headline International Day for Mine Awareness and Action
Caption Description Harum Ali, a 17-year-old from Mellit, North Darfur, is recovering in El Fasher, where he was evacuated after being seriously injured while playing with his younger brothers with a small piece of artillery found outside their home. His two brothers, two and seven years old, were killed by the explosion from the unexploded ordnance (UXO).
Each year 4 April is observed as International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, to focus worldwide attention on the need for eliminating the threat of landmines and explosive remnants of war.
