Headline Secretary-General Pays Official Visit to Romania 
Caption Description On 9 July, Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim arrived in Romania for a three-day official visit. That afternoon, he met with the President of the Socialist Republic of Romania, Nicolae Ceausescu, at the President’s summer residence in Neptun. The talks centered on East-West relations, detente in Europe, and disarmament, although other international matters were discussed. That evening, the Secretary-General and Mrs. Waldheim were the guests of President and Madame Ceausescu at a dinner attended by many high-ranking Government and Romanian Communist Party officials. On 10 July, the Secretary-General and Mrs. Waldheim visited some historical sites and monuments in Moldavia. On 11 July, the final day of his visit, the Secretary-General met with Foreign Minister Stefan Andrei to discuss problems of direct concern to Romania and aspects of the co-operation between the UN and Romania. He then visited the UN Information Centre and a Romanian International Year of the Child exhibition in Bucharest, before ending his visit to Romania with a press conference.
