Caption Description
A 21-foot-high abstract sculpture, entitled ""Single Form"" and dedicated to the memory of Dag Hammarskjöld, was unveiled at United Nations Headquarters this afternoon during a ceremony presided over by United Nations Secretary-General U Thant. The sculpture, mounted on a granite base at the southern edge of the circular basin facing the 38-story Secretariat building, was executed by Barbara Hepworth, a British sculptress. It is a gift of Jacob Blaustein, former U.S. delegate to the United Nations, who was a personal friend of the late Secretary-General.
A view of the sculpture during the dedication ceremony. Speakers included, Mr. Sverker C. Astrom, Permanent Representative of Sweden to the United Nations, Mr. Renè d'Harnoncourt, Director of the Museum of Modern Art, Miss Barbara Hepworth, the British sculptress, Mr. Jacob Blaustein and Secretary-General U Thant, who presided over the ceremony.
