Technical Assistance to Haiti: (Ceramics)
Caption Description
Ceramics as a “small industry” enterprise in Haiti is the story of Glen Lukens, an International Labour Organisation (ILO) expert, and a few of his well-trained students. Mr. Lukens, who had previously completed a 13-month assignment in Haiti in 1946 under an agreement between the Haitian Government and the Inter-American Educational Organization, returned at the end of 1952, under the auspices of the ILO and set up a new Ceramics Center at Lafond which was turned over to the Haitian Government in February 1953, as a contribution from ILO.
Seen here at the Port-au-Prince Ceramic Center Jean George Lates and Hugo Racine, two former students of Mr. Lukens, check soft clay forms.
